Glassworks at Glen Echo Park is D.C.'s first glassblowing school, founded in 1991 by Rick Sherbert. Located in the Caretakers House at Glen Echo Park, Glassworks offers introductory workshops as well as beginning and intermediate classes. We also offer open studio time for qualified individuals.


Discover Glassblowing

(An Introductory Workshop)

This exciting one day workshop will introduce you to the world of glassblowing. There will be demonstrations by the instructors and discussions regarding studio equipment, techniques, safety and the history of glass. Come with your questions! You will then have a chance to experience glassblowing when you create a piece of your own.

Beginning Glassblowing


Designed for the novice student interested in learning the basics of glassblowing and building skill. There will be demonstrations and lectures by the instructors and the occasional drop in artist but the focus will be on learning through doing. The use of color will be introduced and teamwork will be emphasized. No prerequisite required. Bring $25 to class for textbook. You are encouraged to repeat this class to hone your skills before moving on to intermediate glassblowing. Returning students need not attend the first night lecture

Intermediate Glassblowing


Students continue building their skills and adding new tricks to
their bag. Projects and instruction based on individual student
goals. Small classes allow more intense work each student.
Instructor approval required.

Open Studio


Studio time is offered to qualified individuals at the following rates:

 $55 per Hour
19" Large Glory Hole

$45 per Hour
14" Medium Glory Hole

Time is booked in 3 hour blocks and a discount of $5 per hour is offered for prepayment of 10 hours.

Renters should arrive 15 minutes prior to their slot time.
